Finnish Sisu

2016-07-02 - Kappsegling, ÅF Offshore Race Lara Harrison is skipper on the Finnish boat Finnflyer 31, Amidala, built 1982. She has a crew of five and is one of the many (19) Finnish participating bats. It is the second time Lara sails ÅF Offshore Race. Last time was in 2012, and then as a crew member.

She looks very much forward to the race and has a crew of more than 50 years’ experience. It looks as if it is going to be rather much wind but Lara does not mind.

-I have sailed both 65 and 100 footers, among other places round Cap Horn, to and from Svalbard and a couple of times crossing the Atlantic. The worst that can happen is that there is no wind.

Her strategi for the race is simple and streight.

- We can sail fastest and best.

Competing in the race is not only being there, it is also transportation to and from the race. For Amidala they count with three days and nights to and from Stockholm, which means that the boat and the crew spend almost a whole week on this race. That is Finnish sisu and a great interest.
