First day's results

2016-10-01 - Kappsegling, KSSS Sunny ending of the first day of the seasonal regatta with 540 participant boats In a bright and sunny autumn weather, KSSS annual Olympic sailing weekend, opened today on the waters of Baggensfjarden outside the society´s headquarter in Saltsjöbaden. An amazing 540 participants has been registered to sail in 12 different classes.

Race Manager Fredrik Olsson is very content and happy after the plus 40 races held today.

-This has been sheer “propaganda” sailing for our sport, he claims. We have had firm SSW winds at approximately 5 knots and thereby we have been lucky to carry out slightly more class races than originally planned. It is a good and challenging sense of racing among the contenders and we have solar seen no disturbing incidents.

Up to of five races per class has been sailed today and in the larger classes it is quite evenly at the top.

Among the Optimists, with 171 boats, the Norwegian Mathias Berthet from our fellow club in the west, Konglig Norsk Sejlforening (KNS) is leading after three races. He is two points ahead of KSSS' Calle Lagerberg. Oscar Lofgren from JKV is third. As number four ranks Attilla Martins, from TRR with two great heat wins. It only differs seven points between first and fourth place.

Laser Radial features 85 contestants and the Norwegian Sigurd Tveit, KNS, took the lead before the Finns Victor Mesterton, Espoo and Nooa Laukkanen, NJK.

Magnus Nilsson/Anders Dahlen, Träslövsläges BS kept the lead in the class of 5o5 followed by Per Westergren/Lars Wester from BKSS. The Danes Emil Bojsen-Møller /Jacob Bojsen-Møller from Hellerup sailed up as third.

Forty Zoom8 boats run four races during the day. Finland dominated with Sofia Tynkkynen, from Marjaniemem Purjehtihat with two straight heat wins. Runners up are her fellow countrymen Lucas Carlemo, ESF and Oscar Andersson, STSS. Among the top ten we have four Finnish and two Norwegian participants. Way to go Nordic!
