Finnish boom at ÅF Offshore Race

2017-07-01 - ÅF Offshore Race Thirteen countries are represented in this year's ÅF Offshore Race. Finland has more than 20 boats and we met up with Tor Lundström, skipper on the Baltic 43 Xantippe and Finish Champion in offshore racing 2002.

- For us taking part in ÅF Offshore Race is a tradition and a must. I have sailed for 50 years and am soon starting for the 23rd time. I have only missed once since 1995 when I bought my first bigger boat, an Absolut 37.

- There is a strong Finish tradition to participate. Some Finish sailors think it is a bit too far to go to Stockholm but I am doing my utmost to persuade as many sailors as possible to join me.

- I think the arrangement is extremely well organized. I am personally very positive that the start has moved to the very centre of Stockholm and the first part through the archipelago makes the race more interesting. Finally, I must stress that the environment here on Skeppsholmen is fabulous, all the beautiful boats and pure festival atmosphere. We are already looking forward to the next year.
